Client Aspirations
To create a unique home for their young growing family that would provide for their needs now and into the future. Building in an area of outstanding natural beauty, our client wanted to take full advantage of the beautiful views over Carnlough Bay, while still having a sense of privacy from a small settlement of adjacent homes.
Challenges
Site located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, steep inclined hill site, cloister/hamlet setting, installing green technologies, profusion of natural light flowing through floor to ceiling glazing and capturing the views to the sea.
Our Response
We designed a bespoke home with living, lounge, kitchen, dining, playroom, study, 5 bedrooms with en-suite, double garage with office. The house has an inverted plan and the open plan kitchen/dining/living area was fully glazed to take full advantage of the magnificent coastal views. The house is wrapped around an enclosed external courtyard on the approach side creating a sense of arrival. A series of different scale buildings are grouped around an external courtyard to create a sense of arrival. The re-used basalt stone was taken from the demolished structures showing a sensitivity to the natural beauty of the area.
