The Coronavirus pandemic has made a major impact on how many of us work or study. It looks like for many of us, working or studying from home is here to stay whether full-time or for part of the week. We don’t all have space or a room dedicated for a home office or study. But however much space you have, you need a healthy, comfortable and productive work area.
So here are our top tips on how to create a healthy space to work or study from home.
Natural Light
Natural light is vital when working from home. Natural light improves our mood and well-being and it also boosts our productivity and concentration.
We recommend positioning your workstation near a window if possible and by keeping windows clear of obstructions to get the full benefits of daylight. If you don't have much natural light, artificial lights should be well considered with task lighting for dull days or late evenings. Poor office lighting can reduce your energy and productivity and your ability to work effectively.
Desk and Chair
Having a dedicated desk to work from rather than a makeshift environment can boost your productivity and make your working environment more comfortable.
We advise investing in the right desk to fit your space with an adjustable and comfortable chair. If a desk is not an option, a laptop stand for your kitchen table will help you work at a comfortable height and position.
We advise using chairs that have adjustable back support with movable arm rests and adjustable height.
Zoning Space
It can be difficult in some busy households or smaller homes to find quiet, private and personal space, whether it be for zoom calls, video schooling, or studying and working from home. There are many innovative ways to divide and zone rooms. Room dividers or furniture can be used to create that separation between work and home life and to reduce noise and minimise distraction.
A Space for Everything
Clutter is distracting and can add to stress.
We advise adopting a minimalist work station to improve your health and well being. Storage is therefore an important aspect when thinking of your workspace.
Additional space for accessories such as printers, scanners, shredders etc should also be considered.
Back to Nature
Desk plants improve the air quality around us, lift our mood, brighten up our workspace, and connect us with the outside world.
Having well ventilated space is also important for our health and well-being. Open windows and let the air in. Taking regular walks outdoors helps improve concentration and reduces stress.
