We designed the refurbishment of this 3 storey red brick Victorian house on Belfast's Upper Newtownards Road. Although this house seemed large spread over 3 floors, it had small dark rooms and a lot of underutilised space resulting in minimal actual living space.
The kitchen especially was cramped with small windows and little natural light.
We extended the kitchen to the boundary wall adding additional space and knocked through the adjoining cellular dining room creating one open plan kitchen/dining/living space. With the added addition of a large roof light, this space is now flooded with natural light.
We reused salvaged brick from the original house to create an internal feature wall. The weathered pattern of the bricks adds character to the house, and paired with the polished concrete floor and counter tops, gives this kitchen a contemporary feel.
We also included a utility and glass panelled doors to an external porch area into the design.
