Client Aspirations
Our clients wanted a contemporary extension that maximised natural light, captured the views and strengthened the connection to the outdoors. With both working from home, a dedicated office space was also a priority.
Challenges
The sloping site required careful design, including retaining walls to integrate new and existing spaces.
Our Response
Our solution introduced a striking two-storey rear extension, linked by a light-filled glass corridor. The upper level houses a new master-bedroom suite and a lounge that opens onto a terrace with sweeping views over Lough Foyle, while the lower level features a kids playroom/spare bedroom, and dedicated ancillary rooms including an additional bathroom, a utility, a boot/cloak room, plant room and storage/home gym space. A series of newly defined outdoor terraces are introduced at varying levels along the slope of the site to ensure the upper level lounge and ground level kitchen/dining spaces are visually and socially linked. The partly-covered outdoor area residing at ground level incorporates a built-in BBQ and outdoor kitchen, creating the ideal space for year-round outdoor entertaining. Taking full advantage of the sloping site, we designed a spectacular garden room/office elevated at the rear of the property. With its fully glazed front, the space offers uninterrupted views over Lough Foyle and beyond, creating a serene and inspiring workspace that feels fully connected to nature. The result is a beautifully cohesive home that balances functionality with contemporary design, creating an environment where the clients can live, work and enjoy their stunning surroundings to the fullest.
